BIOLOGY
Why
is it important to know about organisms and
their environments? Certainly, doctors and
biologists need to know how organisms function,
but what about everyone else? Without some
understanding of biology, you would be unable
to make wise decisions about many things
that affect you, your family, and your community.
Health and nutrition, for example, are issues
that involve biology. Some important issues
that are decided by public elections involve
biology. For example, the decision to protect
natural environments, such as forests and
wetlands,
is sometimes made by voters. (Biology:
The Dynamics of Life)
My
goal is that students experience the joy
and awe of learning about the living world.
I hope students don't get caught up in just
learning the terms and facts of biology,
but can appreciate the beauty of the processes
and orderliness of living things. As students
continue the study of life, I challenge them
to keep asking questions and searching for
answers.
