Earth/Environmental Science
Why is it important to know about organisms and their
environments? What can we learn from ancient rocks, fossils, and
artifacts? Without some understanding of the systems of the Earth
and the effects that humans have had upon them, you would be
unable to make wise decisions about many things that affect you,
your family, and your community. Natural resource use, population
growth, climate change, and conservation efforts are all topics
that require an understanding of Earth systems. All of mankind
has a stake in the health and welfare of the planet. We have only
one home and it is up to us to know as much as we can about it in
order to thrive as a species.
My goal is
that students experience the joy and awe of learning about the
world and its people and how we are all a part of each others
existence. I hope students don't get caught up in just learning
the terms and facts of my courses, but can appreciate the beauty
of the processes and interactions of living things and their
environments. As students continue their studies I challenge them
to keep asking questions and searching for answers.
